A partner since inception
China contributes core support to ICIMOD and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the designated nodal agency.
The incumbent Vice President of CAS formally represents in the ICIMOD Board of Governors. China and ICIMOD have been working together in the areas of capacity building, institutional strengthening, internships, research and demonstration, and regional and international workshops and conferences, among other activities.
ICIMOD`s partner institutions in China include government agencies, development agencies, academic and research institutions, universities, NGOs and private sector.

On November 27, 2015, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote collaborative scientific research.
