About

Mountain GeoPortal

The Mountain GeoPortal is a gateway to geo-information resources of the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region and aims to facilitate the sharing, integration and use of geographic information across a broad use-base. It provides access to science applications and datasets developed in the context of HKH region. It also disseminates information on various issues through interactive story maps.

The GeoPortal is an important step in establishing a Himalayan Spatial Data Infrastructure with the aim to promote collaborative effort to build, share, and distribute geo-information resources. The GeoPortal also features SERVIR-Himalaya initiative supported by USAID and NASA.

Science Applications

The science applications is a collection of innovative and integrated geo-based solutions to support informed decision-making for mountain development policies and practices. The applications are being developed largely within the framework of SERVIR-Himalaya, which features web-based access to GIS data and satellite imagery, decision-support tools, interactive mapping and visualization, with the aim of providing scientists, environmental managers, and decision-makers with easy access to information.

Story Maps

Story maps help you tell remarkable stories with custom maps that inform and inspire. A story can effect change, influence opinion, and create awareness—and maps are an integral part of storytelling. Story maps gives the narrative a stronger sense of place, illustrate spatial relationships, and add visual appeal and credibility. Below you will find stories on a wide variety of issues and findings in the Himalayas through interactive map, text and multimedia components.
