My role at ICIMOD

I am responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and reporting on the Landscape Initiative for the Far-Eastern Himalaya (HI-LIFE). I coordinate with major institutions and stakeholders of the landscape, build partnerships among them, and align the work of HI-LIFE with other transboundary landscape initiatives of ICIMOD.

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?

A:

My work is focused on protecting the integrity of vital ecosystems in the mountain areas of China, Myanmar and India. I engage with a wide range of actors in the HKH region to promote environmental conservation and community development. In this way I help protect the pulse of the planet.

What I enjoy most about ICIMOD is the open and multicultural environment.

What are you passionate about?

A:

I am passionate about nature in general and I enjoy learning about the culture, history and cross-border dynamics of the HKH region.

My qualifications

A:

I have over 30 years of experience in teaching, research and project management in the fields of forestry, forest fire ecology, human geography, rangeland management, pastoralism, land and water resources management, and biodiversity conservation. Besides ICIMOD, I have worked with Southwest Forestry University of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Aga Khan Foundation (Afghanistan), gathering rich knoweldge and experiences in the HKH region, from the Pamir Region to the Tibetan Plateau and Northwest Yunnan. I have authored or co-authored publications on pastoralism, rangeland management, yaks, ecosystem management, and treeline ecology.
