Rangelands in the HKH reflect diverse geography and culture shaped both by past and present drivers of change. Rich in biodiversity, these landscapes are a source of livelihoods for the local communities and significantly contribute to the national economy. However, national development plans and programmes often overlook the importance of rangelands. To address this gap, ICIMOD has been working to develop rangelands policy in the Hindu Kush Himalayas for the last two decades.
The rangeland policy for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa focuses on sustainable management of rangeland resources with the participation of local and indigenous communities. The goal is to improve their livelihoods and economic condition in conjunction with environmental protection.
