Venue

Rikha Samba Glacier,Lower Mustang, Nepal

Date & Time

19 September 2019 to 04 October 2019

The annual field data collection expedition to Rikha Samba Glacier in Nepal is underway in Lower Mustang. The expedition will carry out following activities:

  • Conduct the annual glacier mass balance measurement of Rikha Samba Glacier
  • Carry out routine maintenance work and download data from two automatic weather stations (AWSs) located near the glacier terminus and on the glacier at the accumulation zone
  • Install an AWS at high elevation (led by Nagoya University, Japan)

The annual research expedition is part of ICIMOD’s Cryosphere Initiative, funded by the Government of Norway. A researcher from Nagoya University is also joining the expedition.
