Stakeholder consultation on

Implementing the Nibuwa-Tankhuwa Watershed Management Plan

Venue

Hotel Murchunga, Dhankuta

Date & Time

03 August 2022

About the workshop

We are supporting Dhankuta Municipality and Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality in organising this consultation workshop to share the planned activities related to the Nibuwa-Tankhuwa Watershed Management Plan (NTWMP) that will be implemented by partners and stakeholders. We will finalise the intervention sites following discussions with partners and stakeholders. The workshop will provide a platform for understanding the ongoing work and community perspectives, and for sharing and interaction among stakeholders and relevant local government bodies.

About the watershed management plan

Upon the demand of the local governments, research and multi-stakeholder consultations between the communities and key stakeholders of the Nibuwa-Tankhuwa Watershed (in eastern Nepal) from 2018 to 2020 led to the preparation of the NTWMP. The plan builds on the sub-watershed management guidelines of the Department of Forests and Soil Conservation and adds to critical topics such as springshed management and institutional mechanisms for implementation.

The NTWMP primarily aims to assist decision makers and practitioners at the ward, municipality, basin, and national levels to understand the watershed’s status, problems, issues, risks, and opportunities, and to leverage investments for improving watershed management in both the short and long term.

Expected outcomes

By the end of this event, stakeholders will acquire more ownership of the plan and be able to implement the planned activities by the end of February 2023.
