ICIMOD at the International Mountain Conference 2022

About the conference

ICIMOD is one of the official partners for this year’s International Mountain Conference. We are part of the focus session on adaptation and resilience,  synthesis session on mountains without snow and ice, and a special event on synthesising and assessing mountain systems. Representatives from ICIMOD will also deliver a keynote lecture during the inaugural session and share case studies from the Hindu Kush Himalaya.

International Mountain Conference is the largest mountain conference that focuses on cross-disciplinary exchange and interaction and aims to synthesise activities for a holistic understanding of the mountain systems. The conference has been taking place regularly since 2005 and brings together researchers and practitioners from different institutions and organisations from outside the academic world working in practice, outreach, and conservation.

As a co-organiser, we are also providing guidance on organising the conference and supporting five early career researchers from the HKH who will be presenting their work at the conference.

Objectives

• Enhance understanding of mountain systems
• Promote cross-disciplinary exchange and interaction on mountain-specific issues
• Weave and/or strengthen a network with mountain organisations
• Synthesis activities for a holistic understanding of mountain systems and discussion of innovative solutions
