Objectives

  • Share learnings on communicating disaster risks with the district representatives, the local government, and other stakeholders
  • Launch the disaster risk map and risk communication mobile application
  • Enhance the local government’s ownership and accountability towards disaster risk management

Participants

Workshop participants include representatives from the Gosaikunda Rural Municipality Office, District Administration Office Rasuwa, Langtang National Park, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Ward Level Disaster Management Committee – Langtang and the local communities.

Background

ICIMOD through its Cryosphere Initiative along with the Gosaikunda Rural Municipality office, Langtang National Park Office, and other stakeholders at the federal, district and local levels completed a participatory hazard mapping and vulnerability assessment of the area. The mapping exercise identified key risk areas, based on which ICIMOD developed relevant signposts indicating different risk areas. The signposts will be installed along the Langtang trail.

Upon the request of the District Administrative Office Rasuwa and the first responders based in the district, ICIMOD also developed a detailed integrated hazard risk map of Ward 4 Gosaikunda Rural Municipality with a participatory multi-stakeholder engagement approach.

Upon the request of local stakeholders, ICIMOD also developed a mobile application to communicate timely alerts during disasters.

This support from ICIMOD complements the efforts of the Ward Level Disaster Response and Management Committee in Ward 4 Gosaikunda Rural Municipality.
