A two day workshop on ‘Financial Procedure and Disbursement Mechanism’ was organised by ICIMOD’s Regional REDD+ Initiative, under the Transboundary Landscape Programme in coordination with the finance unit at ICIMOD 5-6 July 2016. The workshop acquainted partners with financial procedures, reporting and disbursement mechanisms according to ICIMOD partner policy.
Facilitated by Bijay Kumar Shrestha, Sr Programme Finance Officer, and supported by Nabindra Raj Shrestha, Programme Finance Officer and REDD+ team, the workshop covered budgeting and financial reporting with practical exercises, audit compliance and documentation, and financial monitoring under letter of agreement signed between ICIMOD and Ministry of Natural Resource and Environmental Conservation (MONREC).
Attendees were Myanmar officials representing Watershed Division, Forest Research Institute (FRI), Budget Division, and Planning and Statistics Division of Forest Department.
Toe Toe Aung, Assistant Director, Watershed Division, said the workshop was productive with budgeting and financial reporting templates seen as user-friendly. He encouraged the continuation of the initiative in future as well in each partnering countries.
After welcoming participants, Shekhar Ghimire, Director Administration and Finance, discussed audit compliance and fraud awareness.
‘These workshops are very important to get the operational insights of partner institution which finally helps improving programme performance’, Mr Ghimire said.
The workshop was organised jointly by Forest Department and ICIMOD as guided by the Letter of Agreement between Forest Department of MONREC of Union of Myanmar and ICIMOD.
