ICIMOD is pleased to announce that its information technology unit has been awarded certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO awards these certifications in approval of an organization’s information security management system, also known as ISO 27001:2013.
Information technology plays vital role in supporting and shaping the ICIMOD’s role as a regional knowledge development and learning centre. However, with information technology evolving rapidly, we must also adapt to insulate ourselves against security threats – technological, physical, and natural. ISO certification requires that we establish and maintain a secure baseline work and computing environment within ICIMOD to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity and availability of our data.
“With the growing amount of data we keep in house,” said Saisab Pradhan, ICIMOD’s head IT officer. ”Finding a balance between confidentiality, security, and availability can be difficult. We are very proud of this achievement.”
ICIMOD received its ISO certification on 28 October 2016 following an independent audit by United Registrar of Systems, India, an ISO-accredited auditing body, and a joint venture of United Registrar of Systems, UK.
