To celebrate World Environment Day and help raise awareness on sustainable forest management and forest conservation, ICIMOD is joining hands with partners in several activities:

National Level Activities

  • Message from the Director General
  • WED Flyer ‘Profiling Forests in the International Year of Forests 2011’
  • The ‘Tree of Hope’ – a compilation on messages
  • Newspaper article, ‘Understanding black carbon and how it affects us’ by Bidya Banmali Pradhan
  • Final Judging of the ‘Promoting Herbal Gardens in Schools’ initiative and Award Ceremony
  • Inter-School Essay Contest among government school students on a theme related to forest, with Award Ceremony
  • Street drama ‘Gaau Ma Badi Pashyo’ by Jagriti Samaj Nepal, 5 June 2011
  • Support to the Students’ Conservation Conference and Exhibition organised by the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Government of Nepal, and the  National Trust for Nature Conservation, in collaboration with others, 5 – 7 June 2011.
  • Participate in the main day event of the Ministry of Environment, Govt of Nepal, 5 June 2011.

Regional Level Activities

  • ICIMOD is supporting the G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development (GBPIHED) to hold ‘Voices of School Children – Children’s Discussion and Expression Sessions’ with school children from mountain areas in different age groups. The topics of the discussions are
    1. Forest fires in mountains: why, how and what can I do? 
    2. Mountain people and forests: Children’s assessment of human dependence and people’s responsibilities
