The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) engages young professionals to build their understanding of climate change science and develop their capacity to bring about positive change in society. As agents of change in local communities, young people can engage at the grassroots, national, regional, and international levels and be instrumental in communicating climate change knowledge and its impacts to a wider public.

The forum will bring together participants from the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) engaged in environment, climate change, and resilience issues. With technical support from several thematic experts, the three-day programme will include capacity building and knowledge exchange sessions, leadership exercises, and a networking session.

The main objectives of this youth forum are:

  • To sensitize youth to improve their understanding of climate science and climate change solutions, especially resilience.
  • To foster networking among young researchers for better collaboration, integration, and innovation in addressing climate change.
  • To empower youth to build resilience and inspire others and take climate action in their own communities.

This forum has been made possible with support from the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) under its Sustainable Mountain Development for Global Collaboration (SMD4GC) programme, and ICIMOD.

The participants of the forum will also be attending the international conference, Resilient Hindu Kush Himalaya: Developing Solutions towards a Sustainable Future for Asia, being held from 3–6 December 2017 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
