#HKH2Glasgow: Road to UNFCCC COP26

Asks – Our key messages

Organic agriculture

With this campaign, we are generating interest around three key messages from the HKH region based on a review of priorities of HKH countries (as reflected in the HKH Call to Action); climate policies and COVID recovery packages; and consultative engagement with key stakeholders of ICIMOD. These three key messages, or asks, include:

  1. Pulse of the planet: Recognize the HKH as the pulse of the planet – a region that is most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
  2. Mountains of opportunity: The campaign will support regional and international stakeholders to design and launch a medium-term investment framework – “Mountains of opportunity” – to promote investment in mountain-specific climate priorities. Mountains of opportunity is a framework to guide decision makers to invest in common solutions to (a) address transboundary climate risks and (b) deliver climate action at scale and with speed. These investments will put in place the building blocks by 2030 for mountain communities to step into a resilient and carbon-neutral world.
  3. Power of 8: The campaign aims to harness the strength of the 8 HKH countries to enhance regional and international cooperation to address transboundary climate risks and leverage opportunities to ensure that post-pandemic recovery is aligned to the goals of the UNFCCC Paris Agreement. This will enable RMCs to protect the pulse of the planet.

The messages are based on a review of priorities of HKH countries as reflected in the HKH Call to Action, climate policies and COVID recovery packages, and consultative engagement with key stakeholders of ICIMOD.
