Call for application: HUC Academy 2025 on climate change and migration

International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), under its Foresight Intervention, in collaboration with Himalayan University Consortium (HUC), invites researchers and mid-career faculty from the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region to apply for the fully funded HUC Academy 2025. This program focuses on strengthening the capacities of researchers, scholars, and faculty to explore climate change and migration linkages in the HKH region through collaborative research. The HUC Academy 2025 on climate change and migration aims to:

  1. Enhance scientific and applied knowledge on climate and migration linkages
  2. Improve skills to design and implement research  on the topic
  3. Improve practical skills/competence on methodologies for undertaking research in this complex topic
  4. Create an interdisciplinary network of teaching faculty and scholars working on the topic

Application submission

An application must be submitted no later than 4 July 2025 (Nepal standard time, NPT), via this application form. The application must include a 500-word write-up on a research topic related to climate change adaptation and migration linkages, demonstrating the applicant’s interest in and understanding of the subject. The write-up should also clearly outline the applicant’s expectations from the program and explain how they intend to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in their future work.

The write-up must be the original work of the applicant. Plagiarism or the use of AI-generated content is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Selection & funding

Applications will undergo review by an expert committee on climate and migration at ICIMOD. Selected candidates will be notified by 10 July 2025, and granted a full scholarship including round-trip travel, food, and accommodation to attend the Academy in Kathmandu from 4-9 August 2025.

This work is part of the Successful Intervention Pathways for Migration as Adaptation (SUCCESS) project (Project no. 110007-003) funded by UK aid from the UK government and the International Development Research Centre, Ottawa, Canada, as part of Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) research programme.
