Namsaling Community Development Centre (NCDC) wins National Mountain Development Award 2009

Namsaling Community Development Centre (NCDC) is a non-governmental, non-profit making organisation founded in 1984 to facilitate initiatives in community self-reliance. Officially registered in Ilam district, it has been a long standing partner of ICIMOD’s Transboundary Biodiversity Management project in the Kangchenjunga Landscape, particularly looking after conservation and community livelihoods programmes in eastern Nepal conservation corridor.

Each year, Government of Nepal provides awards to different organisations working in the field of mountain development and disaster risk reduction. This year, on the occasion of seventh International Mountain Day, NCDC was awarded Mountain Development Award 2009 from Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Nepal.

NCDC has been working in ten hill districts in eastern Nepal in various fields such as good governance and planning, renewable energy and technology promotion, climate change, sustainable agriculture, environment and biodiversity conservation and others. NCDC, through different projects in these specified fields has been able to significantly contribute to sustainable mountain development especially in the mountain areas of eastern Nepal.

NCDC had also received a Letter of Appreciation from Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation in 2008 for contributing towards food security, biodiversity conservation and mountain development.
