Sebastian Wesselman joined ICIMOD in July 2011 as Geospatial Capacity Building Lead in the MENRIS division. Mr Wesselman holds a Master of Physical Geography from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He has professional experience in capacity building, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, climate change, disaster risk reduction, GIS and remote sensing, network coordination, and project management. Before joining ICIMOD, Mr Wesselman was working as a consultant for the United Nations Development Programme in Montenegro on the development of a spatial decision support system for protected area management. He has also worked for the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction in Africa developing a strategic plan to mainstream disaster risk reduction into the education system; ITC Netherlands as a lecturer and supervisor of students from developing countries; Conservation International in Papua New Guinea in species distribution modelling, the planning of conservation areas, and addressing deforestation issues; and for the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE) in Central America in natural resource management, ecosystem mapping and climate change.
