Mr Deo Raj Gurung from Bhutan joined the MENRIS Division of ICIMOD in 2007 where he is now a remote sensing specialist. Prior to joining ICIMOD, he worked for a decade as a geologist at the Department of Geology and Mines, Government of Bhutan. He has Masters degree in Geomorphology from Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan, and a Bachelors degree in Geology from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. He brings with him wide-ranging experience from Bhutan, particularly in the planning and implementation of geological and glaciological expeditions, and using geo-informatics tools for analysis and optimization of results. At present, he is leading an initiative to monitor snow cover with a focus on the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region, using Earth observation and remote sensing tools.
