Rajendra B. Shrestha joined ICIMOD’s Integrated Water and Hazards Management (IWHM) programme as a consultant for glacial lakes and glacial lake outburst floods risk assessment. He holds a PhD in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, USA under the East West Center Fellowship Programme and a Degree in Geology from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. He started his professional career in geology when he joined the Department of Mines and Geology in Nepal as a Geologist in 1979. He has a broad experience in designing, implementing, directing, and evaluating projects in the areas of geological mapping, mineral resources assessment and petroleum exploration, geological hazards, and environmental impact assessment (EIA) studies for infrastructure development. At present, he is working as a Research Analyst in the IWHM division.
