International Conference on Cryosphere of the Hindu Kush Himalayas: State of the Knowledge

Cryosphere of the Hindu Kush Himalayas: State of the Knowledge The conference, organized by ICIMOD, with the support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Regional Environment Office – South Asia, US Embassy in Kathmandu, is aimed at improving and coordinating cryosphere programmes in the HKH region in order to contribute to the understanding of water resources and their management in the region. The focus of the conference is mainly on glacier inventories, glacier mass balance monitoring, debris-covered glaciers, remotely sensed glaciological observations, snow, hydro-meteorological monitoring and runoff modelling of glacierized catchments, as well as permafrost and the role of black carbon in the cryosphere.

The conference will host scientists and practitioners interested or working in cryospheric science. It is anticipated that this event will strengthen the exchange of knowledge, enhance cooperation in cryosphere monitoring, and promote regional efforts for better understanding of the cryosphere of the HKH region.
