6 – 17 June: Advance Training on RS Tools and Methodology for Land Cover Mapping and Change Analysis in Kathmandu, Nepal

An Advanced Training Course on RS Tools and Methodology for Land Cover Mapping and Change Analysis was held at ICIMOD from 6 to 17 June 2011. This two weeks’ training was conducted by IICMOD’s Mountain Environment and Natural Resources’ Information System (MENRIS) Division. There was a total of sixteen participants: eight participants from Afghan Geodesy and Cartography Head Office (AGCHO), Kabul, Afghanistan; four participants from the Forest Resources Assessment (FRA), Nepal; and four participants from various institutes of Nepal, including ICIMOD. It was supported by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) under the NGA fund.

The training course contained about 30 % lectures on concepts of Remote Sensing (RS) and 70 % practical hands-on-exercises. The training course adopted an interactive with multi-media presentations, participatory discussion, and field data collection during field visits. The training course was based on the state-of-the-art software. The participants carried out different project work in different thematic areas using RS data and application for land cover mapping and change analysis.
