1 June 2011: Inter-school Essay Competition, 'Forest Conservation and its Challenges'


An inter-school essay competition was organised by ICIMOD among eleven government schools in Lalitpur District on the topic of ‘Forest Conservation and its Challenges’. Twenty-three students (11 girls and 12 boys) took part in the competition. The Chair of the Judges’ Panel, Eak Rana, said, “The level of awareness and knowledge about forest conservation issues, climate change and its effects is very high among the students. [and] the girl students wrote better essays than the boys. The girls would have taken all the prizes had it not been categorised,” added Eak Rana.

Third: Kalpana Lamsal, Tika Vidyashram Higher Secondary School, Sanepa, Lalitpur

Second: Kumar Hari Nepali, Kitini Higher Secondary School, Kitini, Lalitpur

Third: Bijay Lamichhane, Patan Higher Secondary School

On 5 June 2011, the Right Honourable Prime Minister Mr Jhala Nath Khanal awarded the winning schools and individuals with certificates, cash prizes, and books at the inaugural ceremony for World Environment Day organised by the Ministry of Environment, Government of Nepal at the Nepal Academy Hall, Kamaladi. Congratulations to all of the winners!
