Tshering Samdrup, who hails from Bhutan, joined ICIMOD as an SSA in the Livelihoods Theme in April 2015 for a year. He holds a Master of Agricultural Economics (MSc) from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany, where he studied as a Erasmus Mundus scholar (2011–2013). As a partial requirement of his degree, he wrote a thesis on ‘Real exchange rates estimates of Bhutanese currency with respect to Indian currency and the evidence of impact on Bhutanese agriculture’. Before joining ICIMOD, Mr Samdrup worked as a consultant/researcher and has a keen interest in the governance of natural resources and institutional economics. He will be working on governance issues with Dr Rucha Ghate and will contribute mainly to the Himalica Initiative.
