Dr Sanjeev Bhuchar joined ICIMOD as Senior Watershed Management Specialist on 1 April 2015 under the Water and Air Theme. Dr Bhuchar is from India and has about 20 years of practical experience in the field of sustainable watershed management, mostly in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. He used to work with G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, ICIMOD’s strategic partner in India, and with HELVETAS Swiss Inter cooperation in Afghanistan as Project Manager of Sustainable Land Management Project and Technical Advisor. He has worked at ICIMOD before and provided useful inputs during the designing, development and implementation of several sustainable land and water and community-based watershed management projects, for instance ICIMOD-coordinated People and Resource Dynamics Project (PARDYP). He was actively involved in the development and facilitation of ICIMOD’s customized course on low cost soil and water conservation and watershed management.
Dr Bhuchar is an active member of the World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies (WOCAT) network for knowledge sharing in sustainable land and water management and has facilitated several practical training on WOCAT tools and methods in the Himalayan region. He has many watershed/natural resource management related publications in peer-reviewed journals and edited books and a PhD in Botany from Kumaun University, India.
