National Workshop on Payment for Ecosystem Services: Opportunities and Challenges in Nepal

The Department of Soil Conservation and Watershed Management, Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MFSC), Government of Nepal - in collaboration with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Nepal, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) - is organizing a two day consultation workshop on Payment for Ecosystem Services: Opportunities and Challenges in Kathmandu, Nepal. 

The national consultation workshop aims to bring together select national experts, professionals and decision makers, in order to discuss on and come up with concrete recommendations on various facets of payment for ecosystem services (PES) in Nepal. This exercise will help the government of Nepal, to assess their existing efforts and provide better understanding of PES for further Nepal's PES policy formulation process. 

Objectives: 

  • Share evidence based knowledge on PES from the different sector, and deliberate the issues related to PES for conducive policy options and planning 
  • Identify major opportunities, and challenges in implementation of PES in Nepal, thereby, suggesting potential research options and priorities on PES. 
  • Explore possible partnership and collaboration on PES implementation in Nepal.
