As part of ongoing ecosystem valuation work within the Himalayan Climate Change Adaptation Programme (HICAP), a team of experts from ICIMOD, the South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE), and WWF Nepal facilitated a day-long orientation programme to field enumerators on 15 September 2013 at the WWF Nepal office in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, Nepal.

At the orientation, experts apprised the enumerators on data collection norms for ICIMOD, conducted a pretest questionnaire survey, and briefed enumerators on conducting ecosystem appraisals with local communities.

Along with experts from ICIMOD, SANDEE, and WWF Nepal, a total of 10 field enumerators, including four women, participated in the orientation. The enumerators will be conducting intensive fieldwork and household level questionnaire survey across nine Village Development Committees (VDCs) of Jhigu-Khola watershed and Dharan municipality representative of the Upper and Lower Koshi respectively.

The fieldwork from Upper and Lower Koshi will provide a basis for Ecosystem Valuation and implementation of a Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) mechanism proposed through HICAP in the area.
