Voices of Khumbu's Children

Interschool Art Competition

The Interschool Art Competition was organised in Khumbu Region in celebration of World Environment Day 2009 as a part of the 'Imja Tsho Action Event' by ICIMOD and Initiatives for Development & Eco Action Support (iDEAS) in collaboration with Sherwi Yondhen Tshokpa, a Sherpa youth organisation based in Khumjung, The competition was held among 11 schools in three village development committee areas in Khumjung.

The aim of the competition was to encourage children from the Khumbu region to express their views on the possible impacts and effects of climate change; to raise awareness of the effects of climate change among the mountain community of the Khumbu region; and to bring the 'voices' of mountain children from Khumbu to the COP15 in Copenhagen, 7-18 December 2009.
