My role at ICIMOD

As a Geo-Information System Analyst in the Geospatial Solutions Theme, I’m responsible for analysis, design and development of spatial and non-spatial desktop, web and mobile applications, inclusive of front-end and back-end components. I’m also responsible for the development of automation tools and support the team by developing any required server-side geoprocessing tools and services to carry out on-the-fly spatial analysis resulting in the form of maps, charts, and tables. Some of my major outcomes are the Nepal Disaster Recovery and Reconstruction Information Portal, the Afghanistan Irrigation Information System, HKH Climate and Hydrology Portal, Food Security Information System in Nepal, the Koshi Basin Information System and an internal Capacity Building Beneficiary Tracking Tool and Partnership Relation Management System.

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?

A:

To protect the pulse of the planet, global dissemination of vital information about this region is critical. My work helps this aim since I collect and manage data generated by our specialized professionals in spatial/non-spatial databases and disseminate it through web portals, web-based science applications and services.

My qualifications

A:

I have 15 years of working experience in spatial/non-spatial application development for desktop, web and mobile platforms. Creating various types of applications, I’ve gained extensive knowledge in ASP.NET MVC5, .NET Core, C#.NET, Django, Python, Javascript, ArcGIS JS API, Google Map API, Open Layers, Leaflet, Google Earth Engine, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS-SQL, and MongoDB. I’ve worked in NEST (P) Ltd. and in Softwel (P) Ltd. where I developed a number of both desktop and web-based applications, including GIS based hydropower project information system, a web-based Community Forest Information Management System, a web-based socio-economic data entry system, and 3D simulation modules for road design software. I hold MSc in computer science from the National College of Information Technology, Nepal.
