Avishek Malla is the Energy specialist/Intervention manager at ICIMOD. Avishek, with over 16 years of professional experience is a seasoned leader in the field of international development, demonstrating proven expertise in the strategic management and implementation of complex multi-million-dollar programmes in the field of renewable energy. His proven track record in programme leadership is marked by a strong emphasis on management, project finance, business development, innovation, and sustainability. Specialising in renewable energy with expertise in climate adaptation and mitigation, he has earned national and international recognition for his work in renewable energy financing.
Avishek, who joined ICIMOD in August 2021 has held leadership roles in governmental and inter-governmental agencies, the private sector, and academia across diverse countries. He has authored several papers and publications and has been a key team member in formulating Nepal Government’s renewable energy subsidy policy and technical standards.
Avishek holds a Master’s degree (MSc) in Renewable Energy and a Postgraduate Diploma in Energy and Environment from Murdoch University, Australia. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Diploma in Management from Kathmandu University. He received a gold medal for being the national topper in his bachelor’s degree and was honoured with the prestigious Australian Awards’ Endeavour Ambassador title.
Avishek has received the ‘Innovative Business Model’ award from the Government of Nepal (2019), and he was awarded from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for Renewable energy for agriculture and health sectors in 2017. He is also the recipient of the Australian Embassy’s 2016 Endeavour Alumni award.

My qualifications
I have a masters in Renewable Energy, and a post graduate diploma in Energy and The Environment from Murdoch University, Australia. I also have diploma in Management and bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Kathmandu University, Nepal.
