Glacio-Hydrology Specialist Action area: Cryosphere and water Climate and environmental risks
Ankit is a glacio-hydrologist specialising in numerical modelling of glacier dynamics and hydrological systems. His research focuses on glacier evolution, sea-level rise, cryosphere-related hazards, and water security –pressing challenges in a changing climate. He has worked across Norway, India, Belgium, and Sweden, contributing as a lead hydrologist in several interdisciplinary projects, such as glacier–lake interactions with associated hazard assessments, and ice–ocean interactions influencing ocean ecosystems and circulation. With this international experience, he aims to strengthen capacity in cryosphere research across ICIMOD’s Regional Member Countries and support evidence-based policy and planning for hazard mitigation and climate adaptation in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region.
Ankit holds a PhD in Glaciology from the University of Oslo, Norway, and master’s degree in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, India.
