विश्वव्यापी तापक्रमका कारण नेपालको उच्च हिमाली क्षेत्रमा रहेका हिमताल पग्लिने क्रममा वृद्धि हुँदै गएको छ। जसकारण नेपालका प्रमुख तीन वटा नदी जलाधार क्षेत्रका ४७ वटा हिमताल सम्भावित विस्फाेटको जोखिममा छन्। अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय एकीकृत पर्वतीय विकास केन्द्र (इसिमोेड) र संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघीय विकास कार्यक्रम (यूएनडीपी) ले नेपालको कोशी, गण्डकी र कर्णाली नदी जलाधार क्षेत्रमा रहेका हिमताल र त्यसको जोखिमबारे गरेको अनुसन्धान प्रतिवेदनले विस्फाेटको जोखिम औँल्याएको हो। इसिमोडले सोमबार सार्वजनिक गर्ने तयारी गरेको उक्त प्रतिवेदन अनुसार सम्भावित खतरामा रहेका ४७ हिमतालमध्ये ४२ वटा कोशी जलाधार क्षेत्रमा छन्।
