UIB network is set up with the six technical working groups, each to cover an important aspect that is considered intrinsic to better scientific understanding of climate change in UIB through monitoring and modeling. These groups will also look at improved understanding of glacial dynamics through glacial monitoring (in situ and remote sensing), understanding climate change impacts on hydrology, water related hazards, and ecosystems and livelihoods through impact studies, modeling and social studies.
Collects meteorological, hydrological, and glaciological and hazards related data. This group also ensures data quality by defining data collection methodologies and uniform database.
Lead: Mr Daniyal Hashmi (WAPDA) and Dr Matthias Winiger (UoB)
Analyzes data to generate scenarios using climate models. This group further shares the impacts of climate change on cryosphere, hydrology, natural hazards and communities.
Lead: Dr Ghulam Rasul (PMD) and Ms Elisa Vuillermoz (EVK2- CNR, Italy)
Interpolates glaciological data shared by TWG-1 and incorporates the results of climate change and black carbon impact studies on cryosphere by TWG-2 to study the cryosphere and black carbon dynamics under changing climate in UIB using glacio-hydrological model.
Lead: Mr Adnan Shafiq Rana (PMD)
Collects hydrological data from TWG-1, climate studies impact studies results from TWG-2 and cryosphere study results from TWG-3 to study the dynamics of UIB hydrology under the changing climate.
Lead: Dr Yinsheng Zhang (Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research) and Dr Arun Bhakta Shrestha (ICIMOD)
Collects information data from TWG-1, interpolation of climate change impact studies from TWG-2, cryosphere and hydrological dynamics from TWG-3 and 4 to map the glacier and hydrological induced disasters under the changing climate in the region.
Lead: Dr Philippus Wester (ICIMOD) and Dr Muhammad Asif Khan (KIU)
Develop the adaptation strategies to manage the socioeconomics impacts of climate change at local level based on results produced by the other TWGS
Lead: Mr Luca Listo (EVK2-CNR, Italy) and Mr M. Zafar Khan (KIU)
