BRACE

CONTEXT

Nepal and climate resilience

Nepal is the fourth most vulnerable country to climate change. Its economic development is closely linked to agriculture. People working in the agriculture sector, particularly in Western Nepal, are often fall amongst the poorest in the country.

The Green Resilient Agriculture Productive Ecosystems (GRAPE) project aims to foster climate resilient and green economic growth of Sudurpashchim and Karnali provinces. The project is commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in Germany and co-financed by the European Union (EU), and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Finland.

GRAPE has four field of actions – FA1: Economic governance; FA 2: Action research; FA 3: Roll-out and FA 4: Up-scaling. These actions aim to make agroecosystems more sustainable and climate-resilient through innovation and capacity building. Out of these four fields of actions, ICIMOD is taking the lead in FA 2 and developed BRACE to support the agriculture sectors of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces.

BRACE aims to focus on action research and the production of knowledge products to foster climate-resilient food production and enhance digital access (mainly in agro-advisory, weather forecast, and market information) for farmers by establishing demonstration sites. We also aim to scale the approaches and innovative solutions developed under BRACE by disseminating knowledge and engaging with the policy makers for climate-resilient and sustainable green economic growth at the provincial and national levels.
