AGENDA
South Asian Economics Students Meet (SAESM) is a regional annual gathering of undergraduate students of economics from across South Asia. The event provides a platform for young scholars to develop and present academic research on issues of regional importance, exchange ideas, and enhance their understanding of development and cooperation in the region.
The 20th edition of SAESM (SAESM-2025) is being hosted by the Nepal Economic Association, in collaboration with the Central Department of Economics, Tribhuvan University, and with support from the World Bank. The theme for this year’s conference is “Addressing Risks and Vulnerabilities in South Asia and the Path to Economic Resilience.”
The Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE) of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) will host a one day of SAESM-2025 on 18 November 2025 at the ICIMOD Headquarters, Kathmandu, Nepal. The day will begin with a keynote address by David Thomas Potter, Head of Regional Action and Global Advocacy, followed by a plenary talk from Mani Nepal, Senior Programme Coordinator-SANDEE, and Lead Economist. The programme will also feature a panel discussion and the final round of the Budding Economist competition.
Over 170 undergraduate economics students and their mentors from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are expected to attend the conference and present their research papers under ten thematic areas.
