National Training Course on "Remote Sensing based Monitoring and Assessment of Cryosphere - Snow and Glaciers"

Within the framework of SERVIR-Himalaya initiative, this one-week national training course titled "Remote Sensing based Monitoring and Assessment of cryosphere” is being held with the main objective to impart knowledge and skills for utilizing earth observation and remote sensing instruments for mapping, monitoring and assessment of snow and glaciers for relevant organisations in Pakistan.

More specifically, the training aims to provide:
  • Common regional approach and methodology for mapping and  monitoring of snow and glaciers using remotes sensing techniques;
  • Customization of international knowledge for mapping of snow and glaciers for mountain specific situations;
  • Development of national and regional database on snow and glaciers adhering to international standardization;
  • Use of snow and glaciers information for  run-off modeling for determining and predicting water availability scenarios;
