About the event

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), in collaboration with the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is organising an online webinar on ‘Forest landscape restoration in the HKH: from global vision to local action.’

The webinar is aimed at deepening understanding of forest landscape restoration (FLR) in the context of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region by highlighting the existing gaps, challenges, and emerging opportunities. It will feature insights from global and regional experts as well as Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs). The aim is to build awareness, strengthen local knowledge systems, and support informed action for resilient landscapes for both nature and people.

Objectives

  • To raise awareness and enhance understanding of forest landscape restoration among policymakers, foresters, researchers, community-based organisations, and other relevant stakeholders
  • To share and enable exchange of good practices, tools, and approaches in forest and tree-based landscape restoration
  • To emphasise the importance of FLR monitoring frameworks and appropriate indicators for achieving restoration goals
  • To explore avenues for transboundary cooperation and knowledge sharing across the HKH region

Expected outcomes

  • Increased awareness of global and regional restoration goals, and enhanced understanding of FLR in the HKH context
  • Identification of gaps and opportunities for transboundary collaboration through shared lessons and good practices from global, regional, and IPLCs perspectives, including field level experiences
