The second iteration of this event – the Kailash Confluence – is being organized in Yalbang, Humla, on 23–24 September 2019. Yalbang is home to a diverse ethnic population with cultural links to communities both in the TAR and India. Today, it is also the administrative centre of the rural municipality.

The event will be organized by Namkha Rural Municipality with support from Karnali Province, Nepal Tourism Board, the Association of Kailash Tour Operators in Nepal, and ICIMOD’s Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation and Development (KSLCDI) Initiative. The Kailash Confluence will bring participants from China, India, and Nepal together to celebrate the region’s shared culture, history, and economy and foster transboundary tourism and trade in the region.

The event aims to achieve the following:

• Harness the power of tourism to protect cultural and natural heritage of outstanding universal value for sustainable tourism growth and development
• Showcase the unique tourism offerings of Humla District, Nepal; Pulan County, TAR, China; and Pithoragarh District, India
• Bring together people from the landscape and provide them with a platform to showcase and explore their shared history, culture, and traditions
