Implementation strategy and sensitisation workshop for Nibuwa-Tankuwa Watershed Management Plan

About the event

ICIMOD is collaborating with Dhankuta Municipality and Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality for a stakeholder planning meeting in Dhankuta. The meeting will be crucial to plan the implementation of the jointly created and municipality-owned Nibuwa-Tankuwa Watershed Management Plan.

With the finalisation of the plan and implementation starting on the ground, this workshop aims to bring together all the stakeholders to share updates on the commitments made for the implementation of the activities for 2022/23 in the Nibuwa-Tankhuwa Watershed. Additionally, all the stakeholders will plan, discuss, and finalise the implementation strategy and their roles for 2023/24 in the implementation of the plan.

Objectives

The meeting is expected to fulfil the following objectives:

• Share the activities and budget implemented in 2022/23
• Discuss and finalise the integration of activities of NTWMP in the annual plan of relevant stakeholders and budget commitments for 2023/24
• Discuss challenges and way forward

Background

Water scarcity is a major issue in Dhankuta Municipality, Eastern Nepal, with growing concerns over the long-term supply and maintenance of water sources for a growing population. To address this issue, Dhankuta Municipality and ICIMOD, in partnership with the Department of Forests and Soil Conservation and the Soil Conservation and the Watershed Management Office – Dhankuta prepared the Nibuwa-Tankhuwa Watershed Management Plan. The plan was handed over to Dhankuta Municipality and Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality in March 2021.
