A National-level Orientation on Climate Resilient Villages in Nepal

The Climate Smart Village (CSV) or Resilient Mountain Village (RMV) concept encompasses a collaborative, gender and socially inclusive and integrated approach to adapt to climate, social, economic and ecological changes. The CSV or RMV concept fosters a sustainable development approach and involves implementation of a number of complementary climate-resilient technologies and practices for resilience building.

The Government of Nepal has prioritized the implementation of the CSV concept in 41 municipalities across Nepal as a part of its effort to help vulnerable communities adapt to impacts of climate and other forms of change.

On the request of the Department of Environment, an executive agency under the Ministry of Forests and Environment (MoFE), a national level orientation is being organized to build the capacity of the executive officers (of the local governments) responsible for field implementation of CSV approach in selected municipalities by imparting understanding of the CSV concept and solutions.

The orientation on CSV will be based on the practical knowledge and experiences gained by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and other partners through the implementation of climate resilient mountain solutions in Nepal.

Objective

Deepen understanding of the CSV concept, potential solutions, and ways to operationalize the CSV approach in a gender and socially responsive manner

Expected Outcomes
  1. Climate resilient technologies and good practices identified for CSVs in selected municipalities.
  2. Gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) principles considered for transformative change.
  3. Ideas for provincial CSV hubs brainstormed per the site selection criteria.
  4. Ideas for operationalizing and scaling CSVs brainstormed.
