Programmes

Mountain Knowledge and Action Networks (MKAN), SANDEE

Venue

Kathmandu, Nepal

Date & Time

12 June 2019 to 15 June 2019

The South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE) is an initiative of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) under the Regional Programme on Mountain Knowledge and Action Networks (MKAN). SANDEE is a research capacity-building network that supports South Asian researchers and institutions interested in the connections between economic development, the environment, and the use of natural resources.

As a part of its capacity development activities, SANDEE will hold its 37th Biannual Research and Training Workshop from 12–15 June 2019 in Kathmandu, Nepal. Selected researchers will present their proposals to peers and SANDEE faculty advisors for SANDEE research grants. They will be defending proposals that have already been peer-reviewed. The workshop will also review the progress of research conducted under past SANDEE–ICIMOD grants.

The workshop will have several components, including a) progress report presentations by researchers who received SANDEE research grants, b) proposal presentations by new researchers applying for a SANDEE research grant, c) mentoring of researchers by SANDEE faculty advisors, and d) plenary talks by invited speakers.

SANDEE’s research and training workshops serve three main purposes: a) training for researchers through peer interaction, exposure to new issues and feedback on individual research projects; b) monitoring of ongoing research; and c) review and evaluation of new proposals submitted to SANDEE.

The workshop is aimed at improving understanding regarding environmental problems in South Asia and furthering SANDEE–ICIMOD’s mission to strengthen the capacity of individuals and institutions in the region.
