Learning and Networking in China

A three-member team from ICIMOD travelled to Kunming, Xishaungbana, and Zhaquing to visit institutions engaged in long-term biodiversity monitoring and attend the Workshop on ‘Biodiversity Data Sharing Environment in Asia’ organized by the Chinese National Committee for DIVERSITAS and the Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The visit enabled cross learning on biodiversity conservation and bioinformatics. The team contributed to the formation of an informal consortium of institutions and individuals under the aegis of the Asia Biodiversity Conservation and Development Network (ABCDNet) to strengthen database development and share experience on biodiversity conservation in Asia. The visit resulted in a new set of learning and networking opportunities for ABCDNet, the Global Long Term Environmental Research (LTER) network, and the institutions affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
