Staff Member Presents ICIMOD’s Geospatial Applications at Asia-Pacific Geospatial Symposium


At the 6th Global Earth Observing System of Systems Asia-Pacific Symposium, which kicked off in Ahmadabad, India on 25 February, Basanta Shrestha, Mountain Environment Regional Information System (MENRIS) Regional Programme Manager and SERVIR-Himalaya Regional Coordinator at ICIMOD, shared a regional overview of the applications of earth observation and geospatial technologies developed through the SERVIR-Himalaya Initiative supported by USAID and NASA as well as experiences at ICIMOD in regional data sharing in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. 

Dr Barbara J Ryan, Director of the Group on Earth Observation (GEO) Secretariat, appreciated ICIMOD’s efforts to support the societal benefits of GEO tools and emphasized the need to strengthen ties between ICIMOD and GEO. She also thanked ICIMOD for carrying out a proactive role as a regional node of GEO in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region.
