Mr Hammad Gilani, a Pakistani national, joined ICIMOD as a Remote Sensing Analyst in Mountain Environment Natural Resources’ Information Systems (MENRIS) in January 2009. He is currently working on several RS based tasks, especially on harmonised and standardised land cover mapping at the regional and national level and on a methodology for estimating carbon stocks in community forests in Nepal under the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) project. Prior to joining ICIMOD he worked for WWF, Pakistan, for two years. He holds a BSc (Mathematics A and B, and Physics) from Garrision Science Degree College, University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan, and an MSc (Space Science) from the University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. During his MSc, he studied remote sensing (RS) and GIS as major subjects. He also completed ‘Hyperspectral Remote Sensing’ and ‘Learning IDL for Building Expert Applications in ENVI’ through a distance education certificate course from the International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), the Netherlands.
