Mr Nand Kishor Agrawal, an Indian national, joined ICIMOD in February 2012 as the Coordinator of the Himalayan Climate Change Adaptation Programme (HICAP). He is a rural development management professional with over 18 years of experience in management and execution of large-scale projects on community natural resource management, microfinance, livelihoods, and development finance. Prior to joining ICIMOD, he worked with the German Development Bank (KfW) where he managed rural development and natural resources portfolios in India and the Philippines. He was actively involved in setting up and executing several large programmes focusing on watershed management, tribal development, climate change adaptation, and sustainable financing for natural resource based livelihoods. He started his career by working in participatory natural resource management at the grassroots level with the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP); an NGO in India; and later a microfinance consultancy, EDA Rural Systems. Mr Agrawal has a post-graduate diploma in rural development management from the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) and an undergraduate degree in forestry from GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, both in India.
