As ICIMOD prepares to embark on its new five-year programme cycle, the series of consultations held in regional member countries culminated in a two-day Regional Consultation at ICIMOD Headquarters 21-22 May 2012. Thirty dignitaries representing major stakeholders, experts, government personnel, and partner institutions from ICIMOD’s eight member countries participated in the consultation to review and update the current strategic framework and to develop the next Medium Term Action Plan-III (2013-2017). The consultation also enhanced country ownership in ICIMOD programmes. The draft strategic framework was presented by Director General Dr David Molden followed by key messages from national consultations held in each regional member country and presentation of ICIMOD’s regional priorities were presented by Dr Eklabya Sharma, Director of Programme Operations. Six new regional programmes, along with their approaches, objectives, and focuses, were presented by Mr Farid Ahmad, Head Strategic Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation.

Each working group examined the priorities, issues, and gaps and came up with inputs for the proposed programmes. The feedback from the working groups and plenary provided a basis for the second draft, which was presented during ICIMOD Board deliberations in June 2012.
