6–7 March: Integrating and Harmonizing Sustainable Development Interventions in the Central Karakorum National Park of Northern Pakistan (Karakorum Trust)

ICIMOD hosted a two-day mid-term stakeholders’ meeting of the Karakorum Trust, organized by the United Nations Environment Programmes (UNEP) and EV-K2-CNR, with the objective of benefiting from synergies with the trust in ICIMOD’s work in the Karakorum-Pamir Landscape. Over 25 participants from Pakistan and Bangkok, as well as representatives from EV-K2-CNR and the Government of Italy and international experts attended the meeting. The objective of the meeting was to review the progress of the project, discuss successes and challenges, identify areas of future work, and maintain effective modes of communication among project partners. 

During the meeting, project partners shared progress and achievements so far. The meeting also facilitated the exchange of experiences and lessons learnt; a discussion on synergies with other organizations; and the way forward for the project. ICIMOD gave a detailed presentation on its work on decision support tools and water resources management in the Karakorum was given by ICIMOD experts. In particular, possible synergies between UNEP and ICIMOD in relation to the centre’s new transboundary landscape initiative in the Karakorum were discussed extensively.
