9–11 March: ICIMOD takes part in Agro Expo 2012


ICIMOD took part in the 5th National Agro Expo from 9 to 11 March 2012 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The expo was organized by the Agro Enterprise Centre (AEC) of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to promote and develop the agriculture sector in Nepal. The theme was ‘Commercialization of Agriculture, Food Security and Income Generation’. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Nepal, Dr Baburam Bhattarai.

The ICIMOD display included not only posters and publications related to high-value products, but also organic vegetables and other products available for purchase from the organization’s Knowledge Park at Godavari and  local partners (Surya Organic Kiwi Farm, Kavre; Himalayan Naturals Pvt. Ltd, Lalitpur; Ashapuri Organic Farm, Kavre; and Beekeeping Workshop, Godavari). The main attractions at ICIMOD’s stall were the demonstration of shiitake mushroom production and cultivation technology; live bees; kiwi fruit; and beehive bio-briquettes. ICIMOD’s stall was well visited and appreciated by visitors to the expo. The expo featured 150 stalls, with products ranging from vegetable seeds, dairy products, and honey to medicinal and aromatic plants from all over Nepal.
