11 April: ICIMOD Participates in National Plant Resource Day in Nepal


ICIMOD participated in an exhibition organized by the Nepal Department of Plant Resources on 11 April 2012 to celebrate National Plant Resource Day. The exhibition gave ICIMOD the opportunity to share its experiences in the medicinal plants sector, in value chain development, and in relation to the Herbal Gardens in Schools Initiative. ICIMOD distributed publications and displayed posters and materials on the biological, socioeconomic, and environmental aspects of plant resources in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. 

Mohammad Wakil Musalman, Honourable Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation and chief guest, inaugurated the event and highlighted the importance of plant resources in the lives and livelihoods of every citizen and in the maintenance of a healthy environment. Other distinguished invitees were Laxman Mahato, Honourable State Minister, and Nabin Kumar Ghimire, Secretary, Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation. Dr Ammapurnanda Das, Director General of the Department of Plant Resources, gave an overview of the department’s activities. The exhibition was also attended by other prominent plant resource focused organizations in Nepal.
