24–31 December 2011: Visit of TAAAS Delegation to ICIMOD and beekeeping project sites in Nepal

An eleven-member delegation of beekeeping researchers and managers led by Mr. WANG Jian Zhong, Director of the Agriculture Research Institute of the Tibet Academy of Agricultural and Animal Sciences (TAAAS), visited ICIMOD and its beekeeping project sites in Nepal from 24–31 December 2011. The main aim of the visit was to learn from beekeeping and agricultural development approaches and experiences in Nepal, and from ICIMOD’s experience in promoting beekeeping as an income generating enterprise in its regional member countries. 

The team visited sites in the districts of Kaski and Palpa (indigenous honeybee sites), and Rupandehi and Chitwan (commercial beekeeping sites). They interacted with beekeepers and looked at indigenous and commercial beekeeping management practices. The project team at ICIMOD facilitated separate discussions with agricultural scientists at the Nepal Agricultural Research Council, with agricultural extension experts at the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and with ICIMOD’s Directorate and professional staff, for the exchange of experience and learning on general aspects of agriculture and pro poor honey value chain development in Nepal.
