The photo exhibition, ‘Himalaya-Changing Landscapes’, was held at the annual function of the Japanese Alpine Club (JAC), a leading mountaineers’ club in Japan on 3 December 2011 in Tokyo.

More than 400 members, mostly leading mountaineers (including the oldest woman Everest summiteer Watanabe) and geographers from every part of Japan attended the event. Among them was His Royal Highness Crown Prince Naruhito, a member of the Club.

Participants enjoyed the exhibition, with many having visited the valleys and mountains displayed in the photos. They were impressed by the photographs that showed the changes in the villages and in the lives of the people, as well as the drastic change in the glaciers. The flyers in  Japanese were effective in explaining the images’ message. Also on display were some 30 photos from the JAC Alpine Photo Club.

The President of the Tokai Branch of JAC located in Nagoya has offered to hold the exhibition in the city in March next year.
