Twenty-one international organizations from South Asia, which receive support from the Disaster Preparedness program of the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid department (DIPECHO), wrapped up a regional conference on disaster preparedness in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu. The two-day workshop was the first of its kind in South Asia. Participants identified good practices and lessons learned from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan. They highlighted the importance of building a culture of prevention in communities that are highly vulnerable to natural disasters and of developing community-level disaster preparedness methods.
